Apple cider vinegar and raw honey tonic recipe
Apple cider vinegar and honey each have many healing properties and when combined, the benefits are even greater (read about apple cider benefits and uses below).
This healthy and tasty drink is super easy to make and it takes little time to prepare when you have the ingredients handy.
Ingredients
- 1 – 1.5 tablespoons of organic, unfiltered and unpasteurised apple cider vinegar – Bragg brand is a good option from supermarkets, health food shops or online.
- 1 – 2 teaspoons of raw honey (start with 1 teaspoon and increase if desired)
- A few drops of lemon juice to taste
Dissolve the raw honey in a half a mug of warm but not hot water (hot will water damage the enzymes and vitamins present in honey), cover and leave overnight for the enzymes in raw honey to activate.
In the morning, add apple cider vinegar and lemon juice to the mug, add honey and warm water. Mix well and have it around 20 minutes before breakfast, for best cleansing effect and digestive support.
Important: It’s best to start with 1 teaspoon of the mixture in a glass of water, and increase the dose, as you go.
You may need to get used to the taste at first but your taste buds will adjust pretty quickly. If you wish, you can split the drink into two glasses, and fill them with warm water for a milder taste.
That way you will up your daily water intake and cleanse the digestive system, including the liver, effectively removing the toxins after the body’s overnight repair and restorative work.
Health improving effects of this amazing drink include:
- Lowers blood pressure by promoting vasodilation (widening of blood vessels)
- Improves overall gut health and supports good bacteria
- Provides live enzymes that markedly improve digestion
- Promotes gentle systemic detoxification daily – important function because of the daily pollution we are exposed to
- Stimulates circulation – effective for cold hands and feet
- Boosts energy and decreases fatigue
- Slows down ageing by speeding up toxin removal and improving skin health and appearance
Start having this health promoting drink daily for at least three weeks. You should feel and see the difference by then!
Amazing benefits and uses of apple cider vinegar
- It supports and optimises digestion by stimulating bile flow from the liver and pancreatic enzymes secretion, resulting in less bloating, indigestion, reflux or flatulence.
- Reflux relief – it works by balancing low stomach acid, hence reducing heartburn. You should begin to feel relief shortly after taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar followed by a glass of water. Note if you have an ulcer, apple cider vinegar won’t give you a relief.
- Helps to decrease fat storage in the liver, decreasing a risk of developing fatty liver – a common condition related to high insulin levels.
- ACV helps to remove glyphosate (Roundup) from the body – according to Professor Don Huber there are only a few foods that can help remove Roundup from the body including apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut and kimchi. This is of key importance today as our food and water are polluted by glyphosate which is very hard to remove.
- Helps with allergies because of its ability to reduce mucous and sinus congestion. Apple cider vinegar helps to break up mucous throughout the body and cleanse the lymphatic system.
- Help prevent fat storage anywhere in the body by improving insulin sensitivity thus reducing insulin resistance and the risk of diabetes.
- Helps to remove warts – soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar, then fasten the cotton ball over the wart with a band-aid overnight. Repeat a few times, as needed, until the wart falls off. Then continue the treatment for a few more days, to make sure the wart doesn’t return.
- Removes stains from teeth – rub teeth directly with apple cider vinegar, then rinse with water.
- pH balancer – apple cider vinegar helps the body maintain a healthy alkaline pH level for inner balance and better health.
- Repels fleas on your pets – this is my friend’s recipe that he swears by: take one part vinegar and one part water, mix well and spray on your pets fur and rub it into the skin. Saturate the entire coat, continue every day for a few days to a week. This procedure will also result in shinier and healthier fur!
How and when to use apple cider vinegar
You can take ACV 5-10 minutes before meals to stimulate stomach acid for better digestion, especially of proteins. Start with 1 teaspoon in a half glass of warm water for a few days, increase to 1 tablespoon (or more) per 1 glass of warm water.
The other option is to have ACV after dinner to stimulate bile and digestive enzymes secreted in the small intestine and by the pancreas. You can also add lemon juice to further help food moving through the digestive track. Lemon juice also supports the liver and is rich in vitamin C which helps with constipation.
Fire cider tonic recipe
Fire cider is another healing drink containing apple cider vinegar and a mix of potent anti-microbial, anti-viral and antiinfammatory herbs and nutrients. It supports immunity and helps with overcoming various infections including a sore throat and nasal discharge. Find my favourite the fire cider tonic recipe HERE.

Is Apple cider and honey mixed with water is good for weight loss?
Yes, it’ll help with digestion and speed up metabolism which could lead to weight loss.
I’ve been doing this for over a year and can definitely attest to the benefits! I also take meds in the AM – BP, lipitor and addn supplements. I’m worried that maybe I shouldn’t mix these? I’m afraid the ACV/honey may interfere with the effectiveness of my meds. Any thoughts?
I’m glad the tonic is beneficial for you. It’s generally recommended to take any natural medicines and/or medicinal foods at least 3 hours away from medications to avoid any side effects.
Do you have to use the lemon? I don’t have any lemon on hand and I try to eat as much organic as i can…so ive just been drinking the ACV and raw honey….
No you don’t have to use lemon. ACV and raw honey is a potent combination on its own.
Hi there, I was thinking about trying the cleansing tonic. I saw in this article that it helps with potassium. I always have really high potassium for some reason. Does this mean I should avoid it?
I’d say yes, avoid it for now. You’ll need find the reason for persistent high potassium.
[…] getting sick, be proactive. Start them on a salt water gargle and consider giving them doses of apple cider vinegar and honey. Salt water loosens mucus and flushes bacteria out of the throat. It will also help to reduce […]
Thank you very much for including the link to my Apple cider vinegar post! Much appreciated:)
Do u have to have it with honey can’t I take it just with the lemon I really can’t drink the honey n was wondering if it Wud have same effect with out it
Yes, you can have it with lemon juice as well but with not the same effect.
hello do i have to take the mixer for 3 weeks for me to be fully cleanesd or just one day is enough?
Taking it for one day will not help much. I suggest you have the mixture at least 5 days per week for a month and see what results you get for your particular health complain.
Hello. I usually drink a glass of warm water before I leave for jogging and exercise.. And when I come back after one and half hour I drink a glass of warm water with lemon and honey.. Is it OK if I add ACV with this or I should take it on empty stomach (I mean when I go for exercise) ..
It would be best to add ACV to your after exercise drink as it’ll also help with digesting your breakfast.
Hi I’m from UK, I’m menopausal with low energy aching bones, I’ve been feeling down for a while I’m generally a happy person but I feel so sad, was taking St. John’s wort but it’s not helped, doctors have prescribed antidepressants but I’ve not taken any yet, any advice
I’m not able to give any specific advice over the internet. Sounds like you need to see a natural medicine practitioner to prioritise and start addressing your complains. Generally speaking I suggest you look into adrenal health and function as the adrenals take over the production of hormones at menopause and need to be in a good shape before this. Also, check your vitamin D levels, this vitamin is of key importance for hormones and moods.
What will happen drink in empty stomach.
It’s beneficial to have it on an empty stomach for better cleaning effect.
I am already taking medicine for high BP and want to replace it with natural remedies. Would you recommend this drink for the same.
To replace high BP medicines with natural remedies you need to work with a naturopath or nutritionist with cooperation from your doctor. The drink I talk about above could be one of the remedies indicated for you to help with reducing BP but it can’t replace the drugs alone.
Glad to read this. I use to use 2 TB. braggs ACV and a touch Himalayan salt. After reading this I would like to start again but where I live honey is a very precious commodity so I cannot afford it. would the above recipe work ok?
Yes, it’ll work well. Would you be able to get molasses? Unrefined molasses is very rich in minerals and high in iron.
I have kidney stones and was wondering if you know a way of keeping them gone or preventing them from coming back. I heard drinking 2 Tablespoons of acv every morning helps.
I’m not aware of ACV helping with kidney stones in any significant way. As the majority of kidney stones are made up of calcium and oxalate, I suggest you look at prevention with some nutrition strategies such as decreasing oxalate containing foods and looking into calcium supplementation – if you take the supplements they need to be top quality and the right type, such as calcium citrate.
Hi, please tell me is it effective to weight lose?
Yes, it will help your digestion and detox capacities which in turn will contribute to weight loss.
After the honey enzymes are activated, how long will the mixture last? What’s the shelf life? Do I always need to drink it the following morning after the honey sits in water? Could I make a larger amount and keep it in the fridge?
From my experience the mixture lasts up to 2 days in the fridge. If you can’t drink it in the morning, you can have it during the day or in the evening in between meals or 20 minutes before food to increase the drink’s detox capacities.
Didn’t know. Honey takes time to activate… Can i mix honey in the morning
It’s best to mix honey in water in the evening and leave it overnight but you’ll also get some benefits when you do it in the morning and leave the honey water for at least 30 minutes before drinking.
